Colour symbolism

Every person feels aesthetic satisfaction when seeing harmonic unity between shape and colour. Let’s mention the symbolic meanings of colours.

RED

Red is the colour of live, blood, love, passion, freedom, fire and celebrity. This is the most active and vital colour, that can hardly be oppressed by other colours. Light red tinctures excite and push, dark ones – make a confident and serious impression.

Red energy (fiery red, bloody colour) is most powerful, even rude physical energy.

ORANGE

Orange is a symbol of warmth, the Sun, power, joy and vanity. It’s warm and festive, vital optimistic and influencing colour. Orange energy refers to possession, and not only by a person but also by a nice thing.

YELLOW

Pure yellow evokes warm, sunny, light, jolly and careless feelings. Golden yellow means vitality, joy, light, luxury, marriage and respect to old age. Yellow has a governing energy.

GREEN

Green is calming. When passive, it may serve as a background. Light green is lively and funny. Dark green is cold and moderate. It steps back, especially when stays next to the yellow, orange and red. But in its turn, it pushes blue back.

Green’s a symbol of hope, peace, tranquillity, life renovation, vivid power and energy of nature bursting out in spring.

Being a central spectrum colour, Green is unique due to its capacity to harmonize other colours, playing a role of connecting link. This characteristic is explained by the fact that the human eye perceives Green in the best way, and moreover, Green is the brightest and most healthy colour for the eyes, the nicest and calming.

Green contains the energy of creativity.

LIGHT BLUE

This colour is an intermediate one between blue and white. It’s a clear and pure, nearly lively colour, and it has a positive effect. A symbol of faith.

Light blue brings up sensual images, its energy is emotional.

BLUE

Blue is quieting, steadfast, strict, distant, cold and calming colour. But it is also full of energy. Its symbols are infinity, far distance, sorrow, fealty and trust. Blue energy is imagination energy without feelings.

VIOLET

Violet can be light, but it also can be gloomy, obscure and solemnly luxurious. It serves to connect colours, but it’s easily oppressed by others. In large numbers Violet may have a negative effect. It symbolises splendour, nobility, luxury, magnificence and friendship.

Violet energy is an abstract energy. No shape, only meaning. It’s the energy of philosophers and reformers.

WHITE

The white colour opposes all dark colours. It could be placed among disharmonious colours; it activates and refreshes other colours. Besides, white brings life and brightness when used with motley compositions, and increases volumes. White energy is like a mirror reflection of the external world, of the world of Buddha and nirvana.

BLACK

Black reduces volume, and when it’s a background colour it emphasises Yellow and Red.

For Europeans it is a symbol of mourning, grief and solemnity. In the East Black is associated with winter – the darkest and dullest season, and also with a prime element – water (deep and dark).

All shades of grey lie between White and Black. It’s interesting that the colours Black-brown and Black-violet are more unusual than nice.
